POSITION: Labour Relations Officer (Montreal)

The GMMQ is an artists' association representing professional musicians, and is currently seeking a full-time Labour Relations Officer for its Montreal office.

Main responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Labour Relations, the Labour Relations Officer interprets the various collective agreements and ensures that they are properly applied to the various sectors in which musicians are employed. The agent provides front-line service adapted to the needs of the clientele (musicians, producers, etc.). 

Administrative management of contracts and collective agreements

  • Inform musicians and producers of the minimum working conditions applicable and help them complete their contracts of employment.
  • Carry out various monitoring activities to ensure compliance with collective agreements
  • Check that the contract complies with the collective agreement
  • Handle claims and/or grievances, invoicing, and follow-up in accordance with procedures set out in collective agreements
  • Visits to places where musicians provide services
  • Participate in various committees
  • Enter contracts and process union rebates for accounting purposes when required

Customer service

  • Resolve problems related to the management of contracts with producers and members, and follow up until they are fully resolved
  • Provide general information to guide members in negotiating their working conditions

Other

  • Participate in Guild promotional activities
  • Perform all other related tasks

 

Prerequisites

  • Legal techniques or relevant discipline and/or experience
  • Good knowledge of trade unions and associations (Status of the Artist Act an asset)
  • Experience in the application and popularization of collective agreements and other regulations
  • Intermediate knowledge of the Office suite and databases
  • Very good knowledge of spoken and written French and English
  • 3 to 5 years' experience in a similar position
