In 2011, strategy a predominant matter with the establishment of an Action Plan that took into account our members’ recommendations. This essential achievement will allow us to focus on clear priorities for the next three years.

The most significant event in terms of media echo has definitely been the negotiations with the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal (MSO) which resulted in an agreement on the eve of the inaugural concert at the Maison Symphonique de Montréal on September 7th, 2011 and the signing of the new collective agreement on November 1, 2011. More than 30 articles have been published during the year on this issue.

Lobbying with the Quebec government has also continued intensely in order to demand to government agencies to require to the funded producers to respect existing collective agreements with artists' associations - GMMQ is accompanied by the UDA, the APASQ and ARRQ in this process. An important meeting with government officials will be held shortly.

The financial results of the GMMQ showed a surplus for the first time since 2001, evidence that the efforts made over the 5 past years have paid off! In addition, the number of members has increased steadily throughout the year to reach 3 346 on December 31st, 2011.

2011 ended under the sign of solidarity with the event Les Arts s’emballent! during which the Fonds Jean-Carignan, that aims to provide financial assistance to musicians in need, was launched. We thank all members who have added a voluntary contribution to their annual dues and the OSM musicians for the great donation of $ 16 000 which they presented on this occasion.
