AFM Canada announces name change

National Policy Conference: Registration deadline is October 22

The last day to register for the CCA’s 2010 National Policy Conference titled: "Artists: Powering the Creative Economy?" and the 65th anniversary Gala is Friday, October 22. From November 1-3 at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa come engage in in-depth discussions surrounding the creative economy.


By a unanimous decision of the Board of Trustees, the name of the Fund has been changed to the MUSICIANS’ PENSION FUND OF CANADA (in French: "CAISSE DE RETRAITE DES MUSICIENS DU CANADA")

All references to the old name should be changed going forward.
Also, future pension payments should be made payable to Musicians’ Pension Fund of Canada.

Visa Processing Update

Further to our communication of July 25th, and after monitoring the new USCIS processing time for P2 petitions over the last month, we are very pleased to announce that the vast majority of P2 applications are being processed within 35 days after receipt by AFM - no premium processing fee required.

A new name for AFM-Canada

Delegates to the 98th Convention of the American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada (AFM) have adopted a new resolution, changing the name of AFM-Canada. From September 15, 2010 « Fédération canadienne des musiciens (FCM) » or « Canadian Federation of Musicians (CFM) » will be use.

New Permanent Committee on Minimum Working Conditions

A GMMQ Permanent Committee has been established to oversee the implementation of the new Minimum Working Conditions for Stage performances and Background Music, which officially come into effect on September 1, 2010.

L’AGAMM rights holders demand their fair share.

Montreal June 15, 2010 - L’AGAMM: L’Accès gratuit à la musique est un mythe (which stands for “Free Access to Music is a Myth”), a coalition of music rights holders, is asking that Internet service providers (ISPs) be required to pay a percentage of their sales revenues to music rights holders as compensation for the music being used.
