A new name for AFM-Canada

Delegates to the 98th Convention of the American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada (AFM) have adopted a new resolution, changing the name of AFM-Canada. From September 15, 2010 « Fédération canadienne des musiciens (FCM) » or « Canadian Federation of Musicians (CFM) » will be use.

New Permanent Committee on Minimum Working Conditions

A GMMQ Permanent Committee has been established to oversee the implementation of the new Minimum Working Conditions for Stage performances and Background Music, which officially come into effect on September 1, 2010.

CBC/AFM Television and Radio Scale Agreements have been extended

CBC/AFM Television and Radio Scale Agreements have been extended for a six (6) month period: April 1, 2010 through to September 30, 2010.  There is a 1% increase to all rates covering the period of this extension. This increase is retroactive to April 1, 2010.

A Quebec Musicians' Guild member wins a free RFAVQ training

Le Regroupement pour la formation en audiovisuel du Québec (RFAVQ)  announced, last May 25, 2010, the name of the winner of their free training contest. We are pleased to announced that it is Dany Thériault, a Quebec Musicians' Guild member, who will received a training of his choice, from the 2010-2011 RFVAQ program.

GoPro Tunes Now Collecting AFM Member Recordings

The AFM's new online music store, GoPro Tunes ( www.goprotunes.com <http://www.goprotunes.com> ), is now collecting recordings - singles, EPs, or full albums - from AFM members. When we gather enough music to have a diverse catalog, we will announce GoPro Tunes to the public, selling digital audio files (e.g. MP3s), similar to Apple's iTunes or Amazon MP3.

Performers and musicians cheer vote on private copying

Toronto – AFM Canada, the Canadian representatives of the American Federation of Musicians, and ACTRA are cheering Parliament’s approval of a motion calling for the extension of the private copying levy to digital music recorders.  Conservatives stood alone in refusing to support artists as Liberal, Bloc and NDP MPs united behind Bloc MP Carole Lavallée’s motion.

Welcome to the GMMQ’s new website

We are pleased to introduce our new website, the result of a few months of labour. We have remodeled the website to bring you new functionalities and facilitate content integration. It has been restructured using Drupal, a free open-source content management system.

The website is still split into three main sections – public area, members-only area, and directory – but a lot has been added:
