The Orchestre Métropolitain and the GMMQ signed a new collective agreement

Montreal, Tuesday, July 24, 2012 - The Orchestre Métropolitain and the Guilde des musiciens et musiciennes du Québec (GMMQ), affiliated to the Fédération des travailleurs et travailleuses du Québec (FTQ), signed today a new collective agreement binding the two parties until 2015. This action makes official the agreement reached by the Orchestre Métropolitain and its musicians' union.

Grants of the Music Promotion Fund

06.15.2012 - We remind you the members of the GMMQ can submit their application for a grant of the Music Promotion Fund no later than Septembre 10, 2012. An amount of $ 1 500 is allocated for this fiscal year and will be distributed within the selected projects.

Petition of the FIM - travelling by plane with instrument

14.06.2012 - The International Federation of Musicians (FIM) launches a petition requesting the European Commissioner responsible for transport, M. Siim Kallas, to take the musicians' concerns into account regarding the update of the rule 261/2004 on air passenger rights (currently under revision). 

The GMMQ is for a negotiation between the government and student representatives

04.18.2012 - The GMMQ regrets the situation of long-running crisis as no meeting date has been set between the government and representatives of the striking students.

The GMMQ is concerned about the impact of the status quo, particularly on students in music who will suffer the brunt of rising tuition, because of the precariousness of a large majority of musicians trying to make their living from music. It is hoped that all parties can start negotiating soon.

2012 Federal and Provincial bugets

2012.04.04 - On March 28th, the Federal government announced a $ 5.2 billion cuts for its 2012 budget. Despite the great mobilization of Quebecois, CBC/Radio-Canada sees its current budget of $ 1.1 billion cut by $ 115 million within three years. The Guilde des musiciens et musiciennes du Québec (GMMQ) deeply regrets this decision that will lead Espace musique to reduce its budget for musical production and regional broadcasting time on air.

GMMQ deplores the decision of the Supreme Court of Canada

12.20.2012 - On February 9, the Supreme Court of Canada refused to recognize the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) as broadcasters subject to the Broadcasting Act. These are only seen as entities that provide only the means of transmission and are therefore not subject to the Canadian Broadcasting Act.
