The Quebec Musicians' Guild joins the largest labor organization in the province, the FTQ

By unanimous decision of the Board of Directors, the Quebec Musicians' Guild (GMMQ, for Guilde des musiciens et musiciennes du Québec) will be affiliated with the Fédération des travailleurs et travailleuses du Québec (FTQ) starting May 1st, 2010.

“The GMMQ joins an influential union power that will help us defend musicians’ interests. This is a great development prospect for our association," said Luc Fortin, President of the GMMQ.

The FTQ includes nearly forty unions representing over half a million members across Quebec.
The FTQ is not only an important lobby, it also offers many benefits to the GMMQ, like expert training services, a research and documentation centre relevant to our needs, access to a major trade union network, a union activities support system, and some services offered through the Fonds de solidarité FTQ.
Through its affiliation with the FTQ, the GMMQ will enjoy a wealth of union expertise and be able to offer new complementary strengths to its own members. The general assembly of members will be asked to vote on the continuation of membership after one full year.
The GMMQ will send three delegates to the FTQ’s Triennial Convention and have one representative (its President, Luc Fortin) at the General Council of the FTQ.
