Letter announcing the AFM trusteeship and Judgment of the Superior Court of Québec

Some members of the Guilde asked us to read the letter from the AFM announcing the trusteeship of the Guilde des musiciens et musiciennes du Québec.

We remind you that AFM Vice-President Canada Alan Willaert, accompanied with Émile Subirana and a bailiff, came to the Guilde office on Thursday, September 18 to try to impose the trusteeship and install M. Subirana as Trustee. This decision of the AFM is in response to the request for a declaratory judgment filed by the Guilde in Québec Superior Court to clarify the steps required for the Guild to disaffiliate from the AFM.

As the Guilde refused to give the AFM access to its premises, the AFM made a motion for a provisional injunction in Court to enter the Guilde office and implement trusteeship. This motion was then dismissed by Judge Hamilton who considered that filing legal proceedings to put forward a position contrary to the AFM's position doesn't breach the AFM bylaws.
