The Orchestre Métropolitain and the GMMQ signed a new collective agreement

Montreal, Tuesday, July 24, 2012 - The Orchestre Métropolitain and the Guilde des musiciens et musiciennes du Québec (GMMQ), affiliated to the Fédération des travailleurs et travailleuses du Québec (FTQ), signed today a new collective agreement binding the two parties until 2015. This action makes official the agreement reached by the Orchestre Métropolitain and its musicians' union.

On behalf of the Orchestre Métropolitain, Michelle Cormier, Chair of the board, Simon Blais, Director of the board and Jean R. Dupré, President and CEO, signed the agreement. Signing on behalf of musicians, were Luc Fortin, President of the GMMQ, Monique Lagacé, musicians representative and Bernard LeBlanc, Associate Director - Symphonic Services of the AFM/CFM. Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Orchestre Métropolitain, also attended this event.

About the Orchestre Métropolitain

The Orchestre Métropolitain was founded in 1981 by some of the finest music graduates from Quebec schools. Today, it comprises a majority of Quebec-born and Quebec-trained musicians, and boasts an international caliber of excellence as an organization dedicated to the performance and dissemination of classical music from around the world. The Orchestra is also committed to serving the Metropolitain Montreal community and its diverse cultural institutions. Since 2000, the Orchestre Métropolitain has enjoyed a string of successes under the direction of its current conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin.

The Guilde des musiciens et musiciennes du Québec (GMMQ), which represents more than 3,300 regular members, have the mission to defend and promote the moral, social and economic professional interests of its members. Affiliated to the Fédération des travailleurs et travailleuses du Québec (FTQ), its mandate is to negotiate collective agreements with producers and to provide its members with a standard employment contract.
